Links passages into an interactive nonlinear structure. A basic story needs no code, while variables, conditions, CSS and JavaScript can extend it later.
Why a Games educator might care
Learners can test choices, information and consequence before engine setup or art production. The visible passage map also makes an unwieldy branch structure easier to discuss.

Classroom idea
Build a five-passage choice where both routes reuse one location but change what the player knows. Swap, play silently and identify any choice whose consequence was impossible to anticipate.
Level suggestions
Create three linked passages with one meaningful choice and a clear ending.
Reuse one passage and add a variable that records an earlier choice.
Test whether choices communicate risk without revealing every consequence.
Model a systemic dialogue problem and analyse branch growth, state and replayability.
Limitations
Twine can make a polished web story, but it does not test 3D movement, spatial level design or a full engine pipeline. Browser storage should not be treated as the only copy of assessed work.
